I’ve just posted a bunch of new chord charts of songs I’ve taught recently. I also revised some of the more popular songs by adding chord charts written in my new format.
New songs now available:
- Bowling for Soup – 1985 – Post-punk song requested by one of my middle-school students
- Can the Circle Be Unbroken – Carter Family – Classic country song
- Pacing the Cage – Bruce Cockburn – Gorgeous fingerstyle song, meticulously tabbed out
- I Don’t Believe You – Magnetic Fields – The Fields are current darlings of the indie rock critics (and this song will show you why)
- Daughters – John Mayer – I’m proud of this version: It sounds almost like the original, and is easy enough for beginners to play
- American Pie – Don McLean – The complete, unabridged version of Don McLean’s one-hit epic! 87 pages in all!
- Sweet Virginia – Rolling Stones – I was a big Stones fan growing up but I hadn’t heard Exile on Main Street until my student requested this song a couple weeks ago. Amazing performaces. Mick sounds so sweet in the chorus: “But come on…”
- Roseville Fair – Bill Staines – Don’t know much about this one. My student brought a copy of a friend performing it. I couldn’t find the original version on iTunes, so who knows how accurate this is….
- Father and Son – Cat Stevens – It was fun revisiting this song, which I first learned in high school. It’s still one of my favorites.
Revised songs:
- Eleanor Rigby – Beatles
- Imagine – John Lennon
- With a Little Help From My Friends – Beatles
- Take Me Home Country Roads – John Denver
- Angel From Montgomery – John Prine
- Sugar Mountain – Neil Young
Have at ’em!

I’ve only been playing the guitar for about 4 months now. I’ve only know how to read guitar tabs and chords. I’ve been thinking about starting to learn how to read Music Notes. Would you have something that might help me to start off? Maybe an introduction to Music notes or anything like that.
-Thanks
“Imagine” isn’t a Beatles song. That aside, good stuff.
Oops, thanks for the edit, Austin.
Thanks for posting these chords! I adore “The Magnetic Fields” and I’ve been wanting to learn “I Don’t Believe You” for a while. I came on here last night, I had a very fun time playing it. Thanks for such a wonderful site!
been playing for about 9 months, and nice to finally find some directions for the strumming side. I could never find strum patterns, it really helps.
I was impressed by your extensive song chord list. Have you any chords for the songs of Basia and Matt Bianco? http://www.basiaweb.com/mattslyrics.html
I like the song, Ordinary Day, and I sure wish I could find the chords for it. I try to play it in Re-. I think that is D-. Is that correct?
I’ve never heard of Basia–I just checked them out on iTunes. Ordinary Day is a lovely bossa nova song in Am (A-). The main progression (I heard it in the little 30 second preview after the chorus) sounds like it’s Am to Am/maj7.
Bossa nova is a pretty jazzy style–you’ll be wrestling with some sophisticated chords when you play this. I’m not surprised there are no chords available. It’d be a challenge for someone who’s not trained in jazz (r.e. ME!) to figure it out.
Good luck!
Let me just say this site rocks!!.
Could i please request a song for
you to put on the site if so.

The link for American Pie is broken. If you have it somewhere, I would like to see it. I wish I could send my kids to you, and myself for that matter.
Thanks
Fixed! Thanks, Steve.
Hey Rob,
I have a request for a Neil Young lesson, the song is Out on the Weekend. Is one of my favorite that Neil does. I know you have the tab but I was wanting a lesson.
Marty
Rob,
Just gotta say thanks….Your tabs have helped me open up a whole new world of songs…I’m playing Sweet Virginia daily, and trying to get the intro for it. Also, your rendition of California Stars is my new favorite!
Hasta,
Lowell
