Fall 2012 Coffee Shop Jam
November 10, 2012 at the Q Cafe
This Jam featured a new, lean 'n mean format, inspired by the epic but exhausting 3-show Spring Jam (and the two 11-hour rehearsals that preceded it). This time around, each student was limited to choosing just one full-band song. If they wanted to play a second, it either needed to be a solo performance, or they needed to "sit in" on another students' song.
Though inspired by necessity, this format inspired some very cool collaborations. My favorite was the cover of the Foo Fighter's "Walk," featuring three young musicians: Jack on guitar and vocals, Tess on drums, and her brother Sean on bass.
So many great performances---it's hard to choose favorites. I did especially enjoy playing on Lisa's hilarious blues original, "Letting Myself Go." Connor and Owen's cover of "Supernaut" by Black Sabbath rocked hard, and highlighted Owen's growing skills in an epic drum solo. Axel's original ukulele instrumental "Flying Water" was haunting, as was Gary's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Bird on a Wire."
The videos of this Jam were processed on my new Mac, so they're now available in 1080HD, and have improved sound quality.
